A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Welcome. I’m Maria Shakir, the woman behind M. Shakir Photography.
I’m a Northern Virginia photographer, wife, and stay-at-home mom to four amazing children. I was raised in New York alongside my seven siblings by two loving parents, and my family has always been a huge part of who I am. They’ve taught me the importance of connection, individuality, and appreciating the moments that make us who we are.
But somewhere along the way, I realized that I wanted to create something that was just as meaningful for women.
MORE THAN A PHOTO SHOOT
I specialize in boudoir photography for women who are ready to see themselves differently.
Boudoir is not about fitting into a certain size, age, or idea of what beautiful is supposed to look like. It’s about celebrating your body, your femininity, and your story.
Maybe you’ve spent years putting everyone else first. Maybe you’re entering a new chapter of your life. Maybe you want to celebrate your body, your strength, your confidence—or simply remind yourself that you are still here, still beautiful, and worthy of taking up space.
Whatever brought you through my door, my goal is to make you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself.
I want you to walk into your session wondering, “Can I really do this?” and walk out thinking, “Why didn't I do this sooner?”

Photography has always been about more than creating pretty images for me. It’s about capturing emotion, confidence, vulnerability, strength, and the little pieces of someone that make them uniquely beautiful.
There is something incredibly powerful about watching a woman see her images for the first time and realize, sometimes for the first time in years, just how beautiful she truly is.
That moment is why I do what I do.
I want my studio to be a place where you can leave the outside world behind for a little while. A place where you don't have to be a mom, a wife, an employee, or anything else for anyone else.
You get to simply be you.
In addition to boudoir, I also photograph professional headshots and take on occasional senior sessions, allowing me to celebrate confidence and individuality in different stages of life.
